What is the plan?

The MLB has decided to start the season in late June no later than July second. Initially the plan was to play games in empty stadiums and the television crew and managers will be kept away from other people, while still being tested a lot. Dr.Anthony Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, endorsed a plan during an interview, “Nobody comes to the stadium. Put them in big hotels, wherever you want to play. Keep them very well surveilled,” Fauci said. Recently another plan has developed. There will be 3 divisions based on geography, West,Central and East. There will be at least 100 games. There has been a little discussion on little tricks to make the season shorter. One of them is to have a home run derby instead of extra innings. That idea is still being discussed though so it’s not a fact yet. Scott Boras, one of the MLBs most prominent agents, said that “you’re going to have an identified group of people. You’re going to have a constantly tested group of people. And you’re going to have a very limited access of those people to the outside world.”

Where are the games going to be played?

The initial plan was to play games in Texas, Florida and Arizona. The new plan involves teams playing games in their home stadiums although they might play just in Texas, Florida and Arizona until they can play at home. They will be able to play against other teams close to home since the new divisions are based on geography and they will only be playing against other teams in their division. Spring training will resume in May. There will also be an expanded playoff format. The MLB hopes they will be able to have some fans in the stadiums by the time they start the playoffs.
