We are excited to announce that the Belmont Times be holding a writing contest for the month of OCTOBER! The theme of our contest is… PUMPKINS! That means that your submission should have something to do with the spookiest month of the year. The deadline to submit is October 27th.

PLEASE SIGN UP HERE:

Categories

We have four different categories in our writing contest, which you can read a bit about below.

Keep in mind that you are allowed to submit an entry for more than one category, but you can only win a prize for one category.

Quick Reminder

ONLY WINNERS WILL BE PUBLISHED IN THE MAGAZINE. ALSO, THE CONTEST IS ONLY OPEN TO WRITERS IN SEVENTH GRADE OR BELOW!

If you’d like to see your work in the magazine, please head on over to the  main page of this website and fill out the general submissions form there.

Creative Writing

Creative writing can be a true story from the writer, a made-up fairy tale set in a fantasy land, or anything in between.

Poetry

For the poetry category, participants should be able to use techniques such as rhyming, stanzas, and lines to write a poem about pumpkins. (Of course, it doesn’t have to rhyme.)

Essay/Nonfiction

For essay/nonfiction writing, we are looking for a well-organized article about anything pumpkin-related.

Comics/Drawing

Any comics or drawings are welcome for this contest, as long as it’s related to pumpkins!
